The Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomole announced yesterday that the Edo state government would be increasing the minimum wage of public servants from N18,000 to N25,000.

This has come at a time where there have been many complaints by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) that the current rate of N18,000 was too little and a proposal of a new minimum wage of N56,000 had been mooted.

Governor Oshiomole made the announcement at the grand finale of activities to mark the 2016 Workers Day.

He also said that plans had also been concluded to pay staff who were being owned 13 months arrears of salary in Egor Local Government Council within the next two weeks.
