Mr Barth Nwibe, an All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant for Anambra governorship election, has promised to harness the potential in the oil and gas sector to develop the state.

Nwibe said at a news conference in Awka on Saturday that gas could be used to produce power for industrial development.

He expressed regret that since Anambra was pronounced an oil producing state in 2012, no investment or value had been added to the Orient Petroleum Project in the state.

He commended Gov. Willie Obiano for his achievements in the security sector but added that his performance in office had been exaggerated as local productive capacity had not been maximised because infrastructure deficit, especially power.

“The major roads in Anambra are lit up, but what meaning is it if they are run with generators, we must provide the power ourselves,” he said.

Nwibe said the defection of politicians in the state to APC and the large number of governorship aspirants on the party’s platform was a welcome development.

He said that the Southeast geo-political zone could not afford to be politically away from the centre considering that APC had begun to fulfil its promises to Nigerians.

He said no governorship aspirant had been endorsed by either the Presidency or the party hierarchy as being peddled by some members of the party.

He expressed the hope that the party leaders would provide a level playing ground for all contenders. (NAN)
