About a hundred unidentified hoodlums invaded the Internally Displaced Persons camp in Apo area of Abuja on Saturday and stole some relief materials meant for 872 IDPs.

Reports say that the incident took place during the distribution of relief materials by Total Nigeria PLC.

Confirming the incident in an interview, Mr. Alber Mabuyaku, the Corporate Affairs Manager, Total Nigeria Plc said,

“It is based on this incident that we decided to officially hand over the relief materials to the Nigerian Red Cross Society to systematically find the best way of delivering it to them.”

Mabuyaku said the hoodlums overpowered the members of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps brought in to maintain law and order.

The Acting Secretary General of the NRCS, Mr. Andronicus Adeyemo, who received the items on behalf of the NRCS, commended Total PLC for the gesture, and promised that they would ensure the relief items were distributed to the IDPs.

Items distributed to the IDPs by the society include mosquito nets and solar lamps, among others.
