I Am Not a Nollywood Director – Biyi Bandele

Biyi Bandele continues to make a name for himself in the Nigerian filmmaking business. First it was his maiden venture into screen directing – the adaptation of the widely-discussed Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie novel, Half of a Yellow Sun. Within 2015, he has added popular TV series, MTV Shuga season 4 and Mo Abudu-produced Fifty TNS.ng reports.

However, despite making a name for himself, aside the one he has as a novelist and playwright, Biyi does not want to see himself as a “Nollywood” director.

He told Young Voices UK, “I don’t mind being called a Nigerian director. What I don’t want is to be called a Nollywood director. I’m not a Nollywood director. I’m Nigerian and Nigerian stories are very important to me. “

“But not every film that comes from Nigeria is a Nollywood movie, in the same way that not every film that comes from India is a Bollywood movie,” Biyi Bandele went on to explain
