Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi has revealed why he loves working with home-based players.

On Monday, the 53-year-old tactician, released a 15-man list of foreign-based players, to join up with 26 players selected from the domestic league.

Keshi says he has achieved success with relatively unknown players in the past and he hopes they can help him repeat such feats.

“We qualified for, and won, the Nations Cup in 2013 with a lot of home-based players in the team and we also had some new faces then from abroad,” he said.

“We’ve always wanted to work with the home-based players because they did a lot for us that time and we want to continue that.”

The ‘Big Boss’, who has also called up Kingsley Madu, Rabiu Ibrahim, William Troost-Ekong, and Anderson Esiti for the first time, explained why he called them up.

“They are Nigerians and they have been doing well for their clubs and we must give them the opportunity. If they’re not good they won’t be here,” he added.
