The Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Yobe and Adamawa states have expressed satisfaction with the feeding arrangement in their respective camps.

Speaking with correspondents of News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Damaturu and Yola, they said that the quality and quantity of food served them was satisfactory.

At the Pompomari IDP camp in Damaturu,Yobe, they said they were satisfied with the introduction of new meals on their menu list during the fasting period.

They explained that the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) introduced local delicacies and fruits, thereby enriching their diet.

“Apart from the normal rice and stew or jollof rice, we now enjoy local delicacies like bean cake and gruel’ said one of the IDPs, Malam Baba Bulama.

He said that apart from light meals for breaking of fast, fruits were being served as appetizers.

Another IDP and father of four, Musa Kalamu, expressed satisfaction with food prepared for children, aged and sick people who were not observing the fast.

Hauwa mallum, a mother and resident of the camp, said they were being supplied with enough food to the extent that there were always left overs for animals to feed on.

Executive Secretary of Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA),Alhaji Musa Jidawa, told NAN that quality and quantity of the food of the IDPs had been enhanced.

.”The agency now provides foods that are rich in protein, fiber and vitamins because of the Ramadan fast.

“”We want the IDPs to feel at home so that they do not feel they are missing anything,” he said.

NAN reports that there is currently only one IDP camp in the state, hosting about 4000 IDPs.

Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Malkohi and Damare camps in Adamawa also said that they were not encountering any feeding problem in the camp.

Some of them, who spoke to NAN, said they were being fed thrice daily.
Leader of the IDPs in Damare camp, Modu Goni, said they had no cause to complain over the feeding arrangement.

“We are not experiencing any problem of feeding and I can assure you that I am speaking the minds of all the IDPs”, Goni said.

“Honestly, there is no problem of feeding here except that they have stopped preparing the food with meat,” said a female IDP who simply identified herself as ‘Mama’

Commenting, the state Coordinator of NEMA, Mr Sa’ad Bello, also said that there was no problem of feeding in the camps.

Bello said that NEMA was directly involved in feeding the IDPs and had food stores in all the four camps in the state.

“We give them three square meals a day,” Bello said, insisting that fish and meat were also included in the menu of the IDPs. (NAN)
