Ikpeazu: Politicians attempted to bribe Supreme Court employees – CJN

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, who led the three-man Supreme Court panel, which sat on the suit by Uche Ogah challenging the nomination and election of Okezie Ikpeazu has described the case as a storm in a teacup.

The Supreme Court on Friday affirmed  Ikpeazu as the validly elected Abia State Governor.

The judgment of the Supreme Court was an affirmation of the one by the Court of Appeal, which also threw out Ogah’s suit.

Ogah had gone to court claiming he was the validly elected candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, the platform on which Ikpeazu emerged governor.

Onnoghen said Ogah’s case should not have been entertained in the first place.

He said politicians should stop trying to influence the judiciary, adding that there was a security breach, which will be investigated by the court.

He wondered why some politicians would attempt to bribe court employees to know who will be writing the judgment in the case or the outcome of the case itself.
