Indonesia’s National Narcotics Agency (BNN) on Thursday said they have arrested a foreign pilot for alleged drug possession and use on a tourist resort at island of Lombok in West Nusa Tenggara province.

Head of BNN Budi Waseso who refused to disclose the full identity of the pilot said that the pilot is an India national and works for the budget Lion Air airline.

He said that the suspect was captured during a routine drug inspection on flight crews at Lombok International airport.

He said that it was found out that the suspect had been consuming illegal narcotics and owned drugs which are placed in his luggage.

In 2015, the agency detained a pilot and two flight attendants of Lion Air airline at a drug party on the outskirts of Jakarta.

Possession of narcotics is forbidden in Indonesia and the offender could face death penalty.

In another development, the Indonesia’s national police have detained nine militants who are involved in suicide bombings in the country’s capital in May which killed three police officers.

“All the suspected militants were linked with explosions in a bus stop in Kampung Melayu,” police spokesman I-G Setyo Wasisto said while referring to the transport facility located in eastern Jakarta.

The nine persons were grouped in Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD), which has linkages with the global terrorist Islamic State group, he said.

According to the police, two bombers were killed and 10 people were injured in the deadly strikes on May 24.

The JAD has sent militants from Indonesia to Marawi city in southern Philippines to join other militants in the fighting in the city, according to the police.

Wasisto said that the police have captured 27 other alleged terrorists across the country, a move which may foil them from launching further strikes. (Xinhua/NAN)
