IPOB will not be permitted to mar upcoming poll – Obiano

Anambra Governor Willie Obiano has said that the upcoming election will be void of any security risk even as he guaranteed people of the state that he would keep his eyes wide open to wade off any threats from the Independent People of Biafra(IPOB).

Obiano spoke at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka where he released funds for support mission hospitals in the state.

He said Anambra was on record as the safest state in the south-east and that any election boycott threats should not dissuade citizens from carrying out their constitutional right to vote.

He said: “We cannot allow somebody from another state to invade our peaceful state and issue unwelcome directives to us. We will not fold our hands and watch such an individual motor in people from Abia, Enugu and other outside places to disrupt order in our state.

“Ignore the empty threats. Go about your lawful businesses and sleep with both eyes closed. I will keep watch over you with my two eyes open. I will let anyone who dares us know I am from Aguleri.”

Only recently IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu renewed his calls for total election boycott in Igbo land.

In a statement on Sahara Reporters, media aide to Kanu, Darlington Okolie said, “Whoever said that [there has been a shift in IPOB’s position] is telling lies. The media is fond of spreading falsehood about us. Kanu can never go back on his word.

“There will be no election in Anambra. There is nothing anybody can do about this. Any media that is reporting that Kanu has withdrawn his call to boycott Anambra election is simply publishing false reportage.”
