Former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar has commended the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega saying he set a standard in the conduct of elections in Nigeria.

Atiku in a statement signed by the Head of the Atiku Media Office (AMO) in Abuja yesterday, Mr. Paul Ibe, said Jega left no doubt that he deserved the appointment in the first place because his tenure was impressive and enviable.

Atku explained that Jega had set a standard that his successor has to work twice as hard to maintain his record and build on it.

He said history will write a favourable verdict of his record because Jega executed his duties with calmness anybody appointed to succeed him has to keep the flag flying, especially by pushing for reforms that might strengthen the Electoral Act and deepen democracy.

  • Very well said Turaki Adamawa. The Professor in my opinion too, did great and demands commendation from all lovers of democracy. One of the high points of his tenure was during the collation of the presidential election result when he was calm in the face provocation by a former Minister from the PDP. Kudos Professor Jega because you “JEGA’ED” you way through.
