Jonathan Summons Emergency Meeting with Ministers

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has summoned an emergency/extra-ordinary meeting of the Federal Executive Council which will take place tomorrow in Abuja.

The meeting scheduled for about 3 p.m will take place at the Presidential villa.

Sources close to the Presidency speculate that the emergency meeting might provide government the opportunity to continue the appraisal of the performance of ministries, departments and agencies, MDAs, as the outgoing year is being rounded-off.

However, other issues that will be discussed at the emergency meeting are current economic issues and the fuel subsidy imbroglio.

A highly-placed source said: “Barring last-minute change of minds following the crash on Saturday. The President will hold an emergency meeting with ministers on Tuesday.

“The purpose of the Tuesday emergency/extra-ordinary FEC meeting is for the performance appraisal of ministers in 2012 and their constraints.

“You will recall that the President pledged in August that he would embark on periodic assessments of the ministers in line with their performance bond. Actually, it ought to be every six months, but since a new fiscal year will take effect from January, this appraisal session is necessary since 2012 has almost ended.

“I think the performance appraisal of the ministers may be carried out piecemeal and based on ministry by ministry. But it might be done in the full glare of council members.

“Other issues billed to be discussed at the emergency meeting are current economic issues and subsidy matter.”
