Former Nigeria Captain Joseph Yobo who retired from International football after the  2014 FIFA World Cup  has expressed concern over Super Eagles failure to qualify for the 2015 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Yobo aired his “disappointment” with Eagles’s outcome and stated he isn’t of the impression his absence from the team was a factor to their loss.

“It is quite disappointing that the team will not be at the Nations Cup. It is disappointing for the country as a whole.
But we have to recover from this quickly,” he told journalists in Abuja on Thursday while watching the training session of Nigeria’s under-23s.

“I spent about 13 years with the national team and I don’t think it is a matter of if I was there that this could have happened or it couldn’t have happened.

According to Yobo, he called it quits from International football because he wanted the young ones to take over and also to spend more time with his family.

“I left the scene for younger players to have the chance to play at the biggest level because I also started while I was a young
player,” said Yobo

“I also had to take into consideration that I had to spend more time with my family in quitting the national team. But the memories will be there with me, and I am thankful for being able to serve my country.”
