Just In: Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Edo State House Assembly impeached

Lawmakers in the Edo statehouse of Assembly have impeached the Speaker of the House , Mr. Victor Edoror, and his Deputy.

Both lawmakers, who are members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), were removed by their colleagues today May 3rd.

The two principal officers were impeached by 16 members of the parliament.

The former Speaker and his deputy, who came into office about a year ago, were accused of misconduct.

Meanwhile, a new speaker Mrs Elizabeth Ative was immediately elected after their impeachment as replacement.

Addressing journalists immediately after the fracas, the new speaker Hon. Mrs. Ativie said the members can no longer tolerate the greedy nature of the speaker.

She said the impeached speaker has up to six different financial cases with the EFCC and the members cannot continue to allow such indecent person to lead the House.
