Kaduna State Govt. inaugurates Peace Commission, to establish peace committees in 23 LGAs

Gov. Nasiru El-rufai of Kaduna State on Thursday inaugurated Kaduna Peace Commission, and saddled it with the responsibility of restoring peace in various communities.

El-rufai swore-in Bishop Idowu Feron to serve as the chairman of the commission, which has a life span of 5 years.

He said Kaduna State is rejecting the legacy of crisis, which has marred the development of the state for sometime.

“At the end of five years we will not need a permanent Peace Commission in the state, ” he stressed

“This government has always guaranteed that the ultimate of peace is the willingness of the people’s commitment to leave in peace and harmony.

He explained that the peace commission will assist to striven on those, who choose peace and harmony, and trusting in the laws to resolve conflicts and uphold right

He added that government believes in common humanity and upholds the Citizenship of everyone who leaves in the state.

According to him, the state have strived towards the harmony that binds all together.

He said that the Kaduna State peace commission is saddled with the responsibility of restoring peace in the various communities in the state.

“We insist the conflict that habble Kaduna State can not be the destiny of our state, we owe it to the victim to say never again.”

He said they will establish mechanism to actively manage grievances and to insist that impunity has no place.

Accordingly, all persons must employ peaceful means in resolving difference.

He said peace commission is charged to help the commitment towards sustained peace and harmony in the state

Gov. El-rufai further express appreciation to the chairman of the commission for accepting to chair the commission and all other members.

He said, the commission is also expected to establish peace committee in every local government in Kaduna State.

He further wished them success in the discharge of their duties.

On his part, the chairman of the commission, Bishop Idowu Feron said the committee will perform its official duty diligently and efficiently.

“I will not be involved in conflict directly or indirectly,” adding that he will expose corruption in his official duty.

He said that they will put in their best in supporting government’s effort to making Kaduna State safe and peaceful.

According to him, the committee will be totally committed to the culture of respect of political, cultural and ethnic difference.

“we promise to bring the total population of the state to learn to leave with differences irrespective of our diversity, “ he said

He said the law establishing the commission states clearly its primary and secondary functions.

NAN reports that, the commission named Mrs Priscilla Ankut as Executive Vice Chairman and 2 permanent commissioners as Hajiya Hadiza Gambo and Prof. Sale Basayi.

Other members of the commission includes the SSG, three representaives from the youth, pastoralists and farmers
