Kano Govt. approves N2.9m for Warawa flood victims—-Official

The Kano State Government has approved N2.9 million to assist flood victims in Warawa Local Government Area of the state.

Alhaji Aliyu Bashir, the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation Agency (SERERA), disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Monday.

Bashir said the agency had concluded arrangements for the disbursement of the money to the affected persons.

“We are waiting for them to provide us with their account number and as soon as that is done, we will commence the payment, “he said.

Bashir said the state government found it necessary to give immediate support to Warawa flood victims in view of the magnitude of the disaster.

He disclosed that the agency had commenced verification of flood victims in nine other affected local government areas of the state.

He said the affected local government areas include; Bebeji, Dawakin Kudu, Kiru, Shanono, Bagwai, Garun-Malam,Kano Municipal, Bichi and Takai.

He said the exercise was necessary as it would enable the agency to ascertain the actual number of victims and houses affected by the disaster.

According to him, officials of the agency have visited all the affected areas with a view to assessing the damage caused by the disaster.

He explained that after the verification exercise, the agency would compile a comprehensive report on the disaster for onward submission to the state government and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for necessary assistance to the victims.

NAN recalls that no fewer than 5, 300 houses were destroyed by flood between July and August, while food and cash crops worth millions of Naira were also washed away by the flood.
