Kano State Govt. empowers 5,200 women

The Kano State Government has begun the empowerment of 5,200 women under its Women Skills Acquisition Programme.

The beneficiaries were selected from 484 wards in the 44 local government areas of the state.

Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje gave the beneficiaries N10,000 each as empowerment package at the graduation ceremony on Thursday in Kano,

Ganduje said that the gesture would help in improving beneficiaries’ lives and that of their defendants.

“Our administration attaches so much importance to the programme because at the end, the beneficiaries will be self-reliant, thereby improving the economic capacity of the state and the entire nation,” he said.

Ganduje said that the beneficiaries had been trained in various skills such as home management, catering, soap making, pomade, liquid soap and food processing for six weeks in various trades.

The governor also said that N50 million had been set aside to buy all the products and distribute them to internally displaced persons in the north east.

He congratulated the women selected for the training and urged them to take advantage of the opportunity.

He advised the women to stay away from drugs and other vises.

The state Commissioner for Women Affairs, Yardada Maikano, said that the programme was designed to improve their living standards.

Yardada commended the governor for his foresight in empowering and also training women in various skills that would make them useful in the society.

Also, the representative of the Kano Emirate Council, Alhaji Muhammad Mahraz, expressed delight over the state government’s efforts in empowering women in the state.

He also called on the beneficiaries to continue praying for the state and the country as a whole.
