Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Momoh Jimoh Lawal has once again been impeached which brings his total count of impeachments to two in the last two months.

In December 2015, Momoh Jimoh Lawal was said to have been impeached by 17 of 25 members of the State Assembly, an impeachment which he ignored, continuing as the speaker of the House following the PDP national secretariat’s intervention.

The recent impeachment however has been sealed with the appointment and swearing in of a new speaker. The house elected and swore in Imam Umar as the new speaker while Friday Sani and Lawi Ahmed were appointed as the new majority and deputy majority leader respectively.

The new speaker of the house, Imam Umar, representing Lokoja 1 constituency in his acceptance speech promised to work with the executives in moving the state forward.

The newly appointed majority leader, Friday Sani while addressing journalists at the Assembly complex confirmed the election of Hon. John Abba as Chief Whip while the position of Deputy Speaker was left vacant.

Sani continued that; “the assembly cannot be led by anyone as a sole enterprise whereby all the house rules are ignored and the house remained closed perpetually.

“With the court of appeal ruling which sacked five of our members, reducing I to 20, only seven members are required to form quorum and we have more than that”

The impeached former speaker of the house in reaction to the development said “my impeachment is a kangaroo arrangement that cannot pass under a sane atmosphere.”
