The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Azubike Ihejirika, has disclosed that terror elements smuggled in explosives into Lagos in empty  fuel tankers.

The revelation was made at  an interactive session on Military-Media Relations in Nigeria, held in Lagos. Ihejirika made the disclosure two weeks after a plot to bomb about 16 landmarks in Lagos was uncovered and 14 terror suspects arrested.

Ihejirika said: “The new information at our disposal revealed that these suspected terrorists had smuggled in the large quantity of explosives into Lagos in empty fuel tankers.”

Security experts have called on the government to strengthen security around major infrastructure like the third mainland bridge for example where cars often park indiscriminately.
