Man, 37, docked for allegedly assaulting his friend

A 37-year-old man, Johnson Omoniyi, who allegedly assaulted his friend, Dauda Akinsusi, by beating him up and threatening to kidnap him, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Senior Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Omoniyi, who resides at No. 9 Otunla St.,
Egbeda, Akowonjo, Ikeja, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of breach of peace and unlawful assault.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Raji Akeem, told the court that the accused committed the offences on March 21 at No. 9 Otunla St., Oke Ira, Ogba, Ikeja, Lagos.

Akeem said that Omoniyi assaulted Akinsusi by beating him up and also threatening to kidnap him.

He said that the accused borrowed money from the complainant and refused to pay back.

Akeem said that when Akinsusi confronted Omoniyi about his money, the accused pounced on the complainant and started beating him.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 166 and 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 171 prescribes three-year jail term for assault occasioning harm.

Omoniyi, however, denied the charges levelled against him.

The Senior Magistrate, Mr T.O Shomade, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till April 18 for mention. (NAN)
