Man, 67, two others remanded over alleged $50,000 theft from Ekiti Government Lodge

An Ado-Ekiti Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday ordered the remand of three men in prison custody over alleged theft of $50,000 from the Government House Lodge, Ado-Ekiti.

The Magistrate, Mr Adesoji Adegoye, who ordered the remand of the accused – Bamidele Temitope, 36, Sunday Afolabi, 42 and Shuaib Amidu, 67, said they would be there pending when they would apply and secure bail.

He adjourned the case to Jan. 16 for further hearing.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the ounsel to the accused, Mr Busuyi Ayorinde, had applied for their bail but the court told him to formalise the process.

Eariler, the prosecutor, Mr Caleb Leranmo, had told the court that the accused persons allegedly committed the offence on Dec. 29, at the Ekiti State Government House Lodge.

He alleged that the accused conspired and stole the money belonging to one Sunday Omosilade.

“The offence contravenes Section 390 of the Criminal Code, Cap C16, Laws of Ekiti State 2012,” he told the court.

The prosecutor said that one of the accused, Amidu, on Dec. 30, at Mugbaba area in Ado-Ekiti, changed the foregin currency to naira for Afolabi, the second accused.

“Amidu become an accessory after the fact of felony to Afolabi, when he changed $20,000, which was part of the stolen money, to naira denomination for him (Afolabi).

According to him, the offence contravened Section 519 of the Criminal Code, Cap C16, Laws of Ekiti State 2012.

The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charge. (NAN)
