Man In Jail For Insulting A Northern Governor

A man identified aas Gambo Saeed has been arraigned before the Kastina State magistrate court by men of the Nigerian Police Force, NPF, represented in court by Police Prosecutor, Insp. Isa Liti on grounds that the accused intentionally insulted and defamed the state governor.

The arraignment came in pursuant of a complaint filed by Mr Mansur Ali Mashi, the Senior Special Assistant,SSA, on Radio Monitoring to Kastina State Governor, Aminu Masari.

Gambo who appeared before the court on grounds of intentional insult, defamation of the governor’s character and inciting disturbance was handed a 9-month-jail term by the court with the option of a fine.

The judgement delivered against the accused is in accordance with sections 399, 392 and 114 of the Penal Code.

The Police prosecutor said: “Mashi said the accused person abused Masari and called him names on social media. He said the accused person posted on the media that it was Gov. Masari who influenced the impeachment of Speaker of Katsina State House of Assembly, Aliyu Muduru.”

The Chief Magistrate of the court, Abdu Ladan while delivering his judgement on Monday said the accused was found guilty of the charges leveled against him which attracts a maximum sentence of three years each.
