Man Remanded In Prison For Beating Judge In Ondo

An Akure chief magistrate’s court sitting at Oke Eda, in Akure the Ondo State capital, at the weekend remanded a 24-year old saw miller for allegedly beating and injuring a chief magistrate.

The accused was said to have rained blows on Mrs. Yetunde Ajanaku with his fists and shoe all over her body.

He was said to have committed the offence at about 6:30pm, at Odi-Olowo street, Akure, on June 16,2015.

The accused person, of no fixed address, pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of assault.

According to the police prosecutor, ASP. Pelumi Adejuwon, the offence is contrary to and punishable under section 351 of the criminal code caps 37 Vol. 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

The prosecutor prayed the court for adjournment of the case to enable him study the case file.

Counsel to the accused person, Mr. Azeez Agbaje , opposed the prosecution’s application, urging the court to grant his client bail as that the offence was a bailable one.

In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Sunday Adedapo ordered the remand of the accused person in Olokuta prison till June, 23,2015 for ruling.
