Mike Ozehkome Reacts to Bill Seeking Amnesty For Looters

Human rights lawyer, Mike Ozehkome has said that the proposed bill which seeks to give amnesty to looters in the country is a public show of support for corruption.

According to the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), the bill is a slap on the face of Nigerians, adding that it thus means that anyone can loot public funds, get amnesty and go ahead to enjoy life with his family.

Ozekhome noted that while Nigerians are licking the wounds of the devastating effects of corruption in the country, the bill is a nod that corruption pays.

“Such a law would send the dangerous signals that corruption indeed pays, and that all that a corrupt public officer needs to do is to shamelessly steal the country blind and then quietly return part of the loot, whilst he and his family relax and enjoy the country’s treasury for the remaining part of their wretched and miserable lives,” he said.

“Such a bill will undoubtedly ignite and encourage corruption, barefaced stealing of public funds and daring larceny of our collective national wealth and common patrimony in their naked forms. I Reject; Reject and Reject the Bill.”
