Babatunde Fashola,  Minister of Power, Works and Housing, has stated that unless hoodlums stopped vandalising gas pipelines, the epileptic power supply would persist.

He said this while delivering a key note address  at the second edition of the National Council on Power (NCP) Stakeholders meeting in Kaduna State.

Speaking on how to address the current poor electricity supply across the country, Mr Fashola advocated alternative power sources such as solar, wind energy, coal to complement existing hydro and gas.

Stable electricity, according to him, will only be achievable when contractors execute power contracts properly.

Fashola noted that host communities of electricity assets must also understand that they must make sacrifices so that the nation could benefit.

On his part, the host governor, Mr Nasir El-Rufai asked the Federal government to retain the transmission sector and privatise the DISCOs and GENCOs.

The governor said unless that was done, potential private investors would continue to shy away from investing in the power sector.

El-Rufai lamented the poor regulatory policy framework in the power sector, noting that currently, the distribution companies were struggling under huge debts.
