Niger government has called on the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), to explain reasons behind the repeated power outages in the state.

A statement by the state Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Jonathan Vatsa, on Friday in Minna stated that the state has been experiencing outages for the past two weeks.

The statement described as unacceptable the consistent outage without explanation in the state despite government interventions.

It urged the AEDC to information the public before embarking on any maintenance that may lead to outages.

According to the statement, “the AEDC owe the people an explanation. We call on their management to open a very robust customer service system that can interact with people.

”They can place announcements either through the media or any means to inform the citizen of what is going on. Whatever maintenance they are carrying out should be done immediately to restore electricity.

“There is already untold hardship in most part of Minna the State capital and other cities that has not seen light for the two weeks now,” the statement said.

It disclosed that the state that host three Hydropower generation stations with 4,800 megawatts combined capacity of 1,600MW each, should not suffer power outage unnecessarily. (NAN)
