Nigeria furniture brand, Beauberry Creations is creating a buzz on social media with the launch of its ‘Waste to Wealth’ furniture line, employing ‘used car tyres’ and Ankara materials.

The line, tagged ‘Tyreniture’ has been trending on various social media platform, especially Instagram and Twitter as Nigerians have been amazed by its uniqueness.

The name is a combination of ‘tyre’ and ‘furniture’, and features sets of ottomans, side stools, various types of chairs and tables.

Creative Director, Beauty Martins told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that when she conceived the idea for the line, she had no idea that it will instantly become an internet sensation.

She added that recycling waste materials such as tyres into usable furniture for offices and homes is the brand’s way of helping to cleanse the ecosystem.

Martin employs a unique way of patterning the used tyres into the desired shape and completing the finishing with beautiful ‘Ankara’ cloth patterns.

She told NAN that ‘Tyreniture’ is a product of her research on how used old tyres can be recycled into useful interior decoration items.

She said, “Basically for me, growing up in the City of Port Harcourt, I have always loved Social Entrepreneurship.

“The problems emanating from our environment has been a major concern for me and in 2017, I noticed that there were lots of littered tyres around the city.

“These tyres are on roads, dumpsites and even the streets. For me, it was not a good sight and I knew I needed to do my little bit to help reduce and reuse these tyres,” Martins said.

Tyre furniture has been popular for a while in other countries, however, Martins works with the Ankara patterns, have brought the trend to the fore in Nigeria.

Martins, who is an interior designer and final year student of University of Port Harcourt, hopes to thrive on this platform to design more eco- friendly furniture lines and ornaments. (NAN)
