A Nigerian man, Onoseta Oribhabor, 30, killed his girlfriend, 27-year-old Essozinam Assali before taking his own life in something the Canadian police are calling another ‘Domestic Incident’

Assali, a bilingual sustainability marketing intern, was found by police and treated, but she ultimately succumbed to her injuries and died.

Oribhabor was also found dead on the balcony of the apartment by police.

No reason has been given for the tragic incident.

Everyone has expressed shock at the incident with a friend of the couple, Chuks Andrew Okeleke said; “The last time I saw the them was in December at a wedding,

“They seemed happy and they were dancing. He told me that he was planning on proposing to her.”

Okeleke added that Oribhabor moved to Canada in 2013, he also explained how the couple met “Oribhabor was working in Alberta and visited his girlfriend in Toronto often. They met in the city at an event they both attended,”  he said.

According to Okeleke, Oribhabor’s parents don’t even know he’s dead yet.

This dead represents the 10th homicide to take place in Ontario, Canada this year, with a sudden rise in gender-based violence also worrying experts.

Assali was seen by all her friends as a lovely person. Here’s what one of her friends, Eddie Idisi, wrote as a tribute; “It is very difficult to express how shock I am with the news of your death considering we only spoke three weeks ago, Words can’t describe how nice a person you were and how blessed I was to have known and be a brother and friend to you.”
