The Cross State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service on Friday said it had rescued 32 trafficked people this year.
The Comptroller of Immigration in the state, Mrs Funke Adeuyi, made the disclosure while decorating 45 newly-promoted officers of the command in Calabar.
Adeuyi said that the trafficked people were rescued at different border posts in the state by the command’s Anti-Human Trafficking/Child Labour Unit.
The comptroller said the command had also arrested some suspected traffickers but could not elaborate.
She said that the suspects had been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons alongside the victims.
“We will continue to police the borders with a view to curbing child theft and trafficking, illegal migration, among others in the state,’’ Adeuyi said.
The News Agency of a Nigeria (NAN) reports that those decorated, include four assistant comptrollers, who were promoted to deputy comptrollers, among others.
The comptroller advised the newly-decorated officers to see their new ranks as a call to hard work and dedication to service.
Responding on behalf of the promoted officers, Mr Nyong Asuquo, a new Deputy Comptroller of Immigration, thanked the service for approving their promotions.
Asuquo pledged that they would work hard in line with the regulations of the NIS with a view to securing borders. (NAN)
