Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has described Nigeria as a nation in coma, saying only the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) can rescue it from its current state.
The governor made this known when he received ex-Jigawa governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido at the Government House on Wednesday.
Lamido had visited Wike to notify him of his desire to contest for the presidential ticket of the party.
Addressing the media, Wike described the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as being populated by deceitful people who do not understand the process of bringing development to the nation.
He said the PDP was primed to displace the ruling party at the 2019 general election.
“If you defect to the APC, you are no longer corrupt. The APC is a party of daylight deceit.
“I am happy that one of those who left to bring a messiah , have realised that the so-called messiah they brought is no longer the messiah that Nigerians expect. The PDP is the only hope for Nigeria,” Wike said.
The Rivers governor described Lamido as having the courage to confront the APC, saying the nation needs courageous leaders to move forward.
However, he charged all presidential aspirants on the PDP’s platform to accept the party’s choice of presidential flagbearer.
Responding, Lamido said he was vying for the position of president to bring much-needed development to the country.
