The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC), Prof Mahmood Yakubu has announced that the two outstanding state assembly rerun elections in Rivers state will be conducted next year.
INEC was supposed to have concluded all 22 outstanding elections in Rivers State last week but the exercise was cancelled in two constituencies.
Yakubu was speaking on Friday at the opening of a two-day workshop organised by the commission for some journalists in Abuja.
He said there were 70 incidences of deliberate obstruction of the election process in Rivers state, adding that the commission has documented all the cases and is reviewing them for possible prosecution in line with its guidelines.
He said the commission is instituting an administrative inquiry into the election and. Would not hesitate to punish any of its staff found wanting.
