Painter Gets 2 Months Imprisonment For Stealing Fridge

A Lugbe Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Friday sentenced a 26-year-old painter, John Tanko, to two months imprisonment for stealing a fridge and micro wave.

Tanko, who resides at Galadimawa village, was sentenced on a two-count charge of criminal trespass and theft, offences he admitted committing.

Senior Judge Garba Ogbede, however, gave the convict N4, 000 option of fine and also ordered that the recovered items be returned to the owner.

He warned the convict to be of good behaviour and to desist from crimes after serving out his punishment.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Ukaoha Ndidi, had informed the court that on Febuary 11, Friday Ubani of Aleita village, reported the matter at the Lugbe Police Station.

Ndidi told the court that the convict entered the complainant’s shop at about 3.30 am and made away with one table fridge and one micro wave.

She said that the convict was caught with the said table fridge and micro wave worth of N53, 000.

Ndidi said that during police investigation and interrogation, the convict admitted to committing the offence.

He said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 348 and 288 of the Penal Code.

Following the plea of the convict, the prosecutor prayed the court to try him summarily under Section 347 of the Administration of Criminal Justices Act, 2015. (NAN)
