PDP Crisis: Tension as Appeal Court Rules on Chairmanship Today

The PDP is returning to court today for the final hearing on the case to determine the legal chairman of the party; Ali Modu Sheriff or Ahmed Makarfi.

After suffering a resounding defeat in the recently concluded Ondo governorship election, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) returns to the Appeal Court today for the determination of all pending court cases.

The matters are before the Appeal court’s special panel in Abuja and the ruling is expected to start from around 9am. The party confirmed this in a brief statement late on Wednesday, November 30.

The PDP is hopeful that the court would uphold the legitimacy of the national caretaker committee of the party led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi as against the leadership of Senator Ali Modu Sheriff who has continued to claim that he is the substantive chairman of the party.

The Wednesday statement reads;

“This is to inform our members, teeming supporters and the general public that the Special Appeal Panel will continue sitting on Thursday, December 1, 2016, by 9:00am at the Appeal Court, Abuja, to determine all the PDP outstanding appeals pending before it. We therefore urge our members to continue to support the national leadership of our Party ably led by the National Chairman, H. E. Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, CON, to move the PDP forward.”

“We are sure of victory for democracy and for our Party, the PDP.”

Recall that the PDP recently went before the same special panel late in November and was given a favourable judgement on the case of the rightful candidate of the party in the Ondo election between Eyitayo Jegede SAN and Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim.
