Yes I'm African, but I did not grow up hungry. Hungry Children are in Africa. They are also in the U.S.

Sen. Ahmed Makarfi-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has called on the federal and state governments to pay more attention to children through policies that would protect their rights against violence and trafficking.

The party made the call in a statement issued by Mr Dayo Adeyeye, National Publicity Secretary of its National Caretaker Committee in Abuja on Friday as the nation celebrates Children’s Day.

Children’s Day is a day set aside to celebrate childhood worldwide from October 1955 when it began under the sponsorship of the International Union for Child Welfare in Geneva, Switzerland.

Adeyeye also urged governments at all levels to provide quality and sustainable education for the Nigerian Children, while urging the children to be of good conduct.

“As children in Nigeria marks this auspicious occasion on May 27, we celebrate these leaders of tomorrow.

“We admonish them to obey their parents and teachers, learn to make sacrifices for others, and be of good conduct.

“Finally, we also call on the federal and state governments to pay more attention to the plight of children by formulating and implementing policies that will protect their rights especially against violence and child trafficking’’, Adeyeye said. (NAN)
