New research has revealed that sudden heart attack is not always sudden because people often ignore the warning signs long before it happens.
Heart Attack or Cardiac Arrest occurs when the heart stops beating its electrical activity knocked out of rhythm. There has been a long time belief that it usually happens without warning but researchers have been able to dispel this myth.
Dr. Sumeet Chugh of the Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute in Los Angeles, who led the study reported in the Annals of Medicine said “By the time the 911 call is made, it’s much too late for at least 90 percent of people.There’s this window of opportunity that we really didn’t know existed. “
The doctor recommended that Chest pain, shortness of breath are things that should get checked out because those are the little warning signs.
Previous heart attacks, coronary heart disease and certain health disorders can all increase the risk of cardiac arrest.
Chugh further explained that the study is just the beginning of more research to better predict who is at highest risk for cardiac arrest, and determine how to target them without panicking people who will do fine with general heart disease treatment.
