Peter Okoye, one half of the dynamic duo P-Square has released a new single called Looking into my eyes. This has fueled rumors that he is going into a solo career. Bands and groups splitting up is not a new things as we’ve seen with the likes of Dbanj and Don Jazzy, The Plantation Boyz, The Remedies and so on. The list is exhaustive, what varies is the level of success that these artistes go on to have with their solo careers.
Tu-face was the most successful of the now defunct Plantation Boyz and Black face shone briefly but hasn’t been in the limelight in eons. Going outside our shores, Destiny’s Child alumni Beyonce is a mega star and grew exponentially after she left the trio, the other two have been unable to replicate her success.
If Looking into My Eyes is anything to go by, then its safe to say Peter Okoye will be just fine. Many Nigerians aren’t happy with the purported split, but we know that once they hear good material from the solo artiste, they usually adjust pretty well.
P-Square burst into the scene way back when in 2001 with their Debut album Last Nite. They followed it up with Get Squared, their sophomore album. By now they were already household names in the Nigerian music industry.
