PFN Warns Buhari To Caution El-Rufai Over ‘License For Preachers’ Saga

In reaction to a bill seeking to regulate religious activities in Kaduna State, the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has sent a warning to President Muhammadu Buhari to call Governor Nasir el-Rufai to order.

The bill, among other provisions, is seeking to ensure that all religious preachers in the state are licensed, which the state government says will help to stem the tide of hate speech and religious extremism.

But in a statement on Wednesday by the Chairman of the PFN in Enugu State, Rev, Dr, Godwin Madu, the group said President Buhari ought to call el-Rufai to order because the Religious Preaching Bill was capable of throwing the nation into chaos.

The statement said it was unconstitutional for the government of the state to be trying to curtail religious freedom, which is expressly granted in the highest law of the land.

It added that the licensing of preachers was not in the best interest of the nation and should be discarded.

In the same vein, the statement said it was wrong that the presidency was trying to check incessant attacks of Fulani herdsmen on innocent villages across the country by establishing grazing fields across the 36 states of the federation, calling it an attempt to Islamize the country.

The statement called on the National Assembly to reject the bill that is being prepared by the presidency to establish the grazing reserves, saying it was the cause of the problem in the first place.

It further called on the security agencies to come to the rescue of innocent citizens across the nation who are daily falling ot the menace of the activities of the Fulani herdsmen.
