The command’s spokesman, SP Ebere Amaraizu, who made this disclosure in a statement on Monday, said that the suspect (names withheld) was arrested on Nov. 4.

Amaraizu said that the arrest by officers of the New Haven Division, was made possible by intelligence information from the public.

He said that the detectives stormed the suspect’s hide-out Woliwo area of Onitsha in Anambra, where he was arrested.

According to him, the suspect is a member of a three-man gang, who operate in Enugu, where they dispossess operators of their tricycles.

Amaraizu said that the two other members of the gang were still at large.

The suspect, during interrogation, confessed that his gang specialised in selling the tricycles stolen in Enugu to ready buyers in Onitsha.

“On Nov. 4, in the early hours, the suspect and his cohorts still at large, snatched two tricycles in Mary-Land axis of Enugu and zoomed off before police operatives swooped on them.

“While the suspect was arrested, other gang members escaped at Woliwo in Onitsha.

“Manhunt for the fleeing suspects has been intensified, as the arrested suspect is helping police operatives in their investigations,’’ he said. (NAN)
