A lady identified as Kelechi Uche has been arrested by the Abia State Police Command for allegedly attempting to sell a baby.

According to her, the four-month-old baby was given to her by her boyfriend Uchenna, whom the police claim was at large, and four other unidentified persons.

The State Police Commissioner, Joshak Habila, said the suspect was arrested in Osusu Aku while trying to sell the baby.

He further said that vigilant members of the public seized and took her to a police station when she could not satisfactorily answer questions on whether she was the baby’s mother.

The baby, who was probably hungry, was said to have crying loudly without Uche being able to breastfeed him.

This was said to have aroused suspicions about Uche who became fussy when pressed by the public to breastfeed the baby.

Habila said Uchenna and four other suspects who were still in hiding stole the boy at gun point on August 21 at Ntigha Uzo in Obingwa Local Government Area
