Men of the Rivers State Police Command engaged some gunmen numbering at least four in a gun duel after the suspected robbers successfully robbed some shop owners in Port Harcourt yesterday.

The gunmen were said to have robbed a supermarket located on Sanjana Street and escaped with an unspecified amount of money and other valuables after the gun duel with the police.

The gun duel, which eyewitnesses say lasted for about 15 minutes, was said to have occurred around 5.25pm, forcing bystanders to scamper for safety.

Eyewitnesses say the police were gallant in engaging the armed men but expressed surprise that despite the efforts of the police, the bullets of the police seemed not to have an impact on the armed men.

According to a report by The Sun, a salesgirl from whom the suspected bandits collected an unspecified amount of money recounted her story.

The un-identified girl said: “As I was counting the money, they came in, and one of them pointed a gun at me and took the bag containing the money.”

A nearby building was said to have been riddled with bullets in a gun duel which did not record any casualty.

However, the alleged robbers were said to have escaped through a road around the rail track in the area.
