The Police in Rivers said no Divisional Police Officer (DPO) was killed by gunmen in Port Harcourt.

DSP Nnamdi Omoni, the Police Spokesman in the state, denied the rumour on Wednesday in a statement issued to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

“No DPO was killed, please,’’ Omoni said.

NAN reports that the rumour of killing of a DPO by gunmen at Iwofe area of Port Harcourt at about 9 p.m. on Monday spread like wild fire in Port Harcourt.

NAN also recalls that five policemen were kidnapped in a suburb in Port Harcourt while they were on official duty some months ago.

However, the Commissioner in the state, Mr Francis Odesanya, told a news conference three weeks ago that they would “soon reunite ”with their families.’’ (NAN)
