French police used tear gas against hundreds of England football fans in the city of Lille on Wednesday, a report said.

English fans are gathering in the city ahead of their Euro 2016 Group B game against Wales in nearby Lens on Thursday.

England fans clashed with Russian and French youths before and after their 1-1 draw with Russia in Marseille on Saturday.

Russia fans charged England supporters at the end of that game and Russia were given a suspended disqualification by governing body UEFA.

Russia fans are also in Lille after their 2-1 defeat by Slovakia in the city earlier on Wednesday. Russia fans lit a flare inside the stadium but it was otherwise calm. (dpa/NAN)
