RCCG Pastor’s Murder: Police Release Arrested Suspects

The Nigerian police has according to reports released suspects arrested in connection with the murder of a Redeemed Christian Church of God pastor, Eunice Elisha.

According to Premium Times, the suspects, whose identities remain masked, have been released by men of the Nigerian Police on grounds that investigations conducted “could not link them to the murder”.

Speaking on the release of suspects arrested in connection with the murder of the Abuja-based pastor, the spokesman of the Abuja police command, Manzah Anjuguri said: “What happened is that when the incident occurred, arrests were made. But during the course of the investigation we found that the persons arrested could not be linked to the said murder. And we cannot keep them if we do not have any case against them.

“They were released under the condition that they will be invited for questioning whenever the need arises. The commissioner has instructed the Divisional Police Officer for that region to intensify efforts on the matter; the case has not been closed. The investigation is still ongoing.”

However, the latest report from the police contradicts earlier statement made by the police command hours after the Abuja-based pastor was murdered.

According to the police on July 9, 2016 after the suspects were arrested, “we have made some arrests and they are helping in our investigation.”

The police spokesman, Mr. Anjuguri, hours after the murder added: “The commissioner of police has ordered the homicide section of the command to take over the investigation of the case.”
