Resuce officials have abandoned the search for occupants of a Toyota Hilux truck that plunged into the Majidun River off the highway on the outskirts of Lagos.

The truck, which skidded off the ever-busy Lagos-Ikorodu Road, around 7am had long been recovered by the rescue officials.

The truck, with registration number KSF 918 AU, was driven by one Kolawole Ahmed, the administrative manager of Ikoyi Club 1938 and said to contain four persons by witnesses.

Officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, LASEMA; the Maritime Navy; and the National Emergency Management Authority, NEMA had all tried to rescue the victims, but without success.

The General Manager of LASEMA, Dr Femi Oke-Osayintolu confirmed that four persons were in the truck. He said officials of his agency and other relevant agencies were on ground in time to commence rescue operations, but only the vehicle was able to be retrieved.

The recovered truck has been deposited at the Ajegunle Police Station.
