Kirghyzstan's Izzat Artykov poses with his bronze medal on the podium of the Men's 69kg weightlifting competition at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro on August 9, 2016.

Kygyzstan’s representative for Weightlifting at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics, 22-year-old  Izzat Artykov was stripped of his Bronze medal, after he failed a drug test. Artykov, who won the gold at the 2016 Asian Championships, is the first Rio medallist to test positive for an illegal substance. Artykov had finished third in the Men’s 69kg weightlifting competition.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled  his medal  forfeit and henceforth, he would be excluded from the Games, after testing positive for strychnine. The bronze medal will be reallocated by the Weightlifting Federation and the International Olympic Committee.

Luis Javier representing Columbia would be the weightlifter to move to the bronze position, having come fourth.
