Rio Olympics 2016: Nigeria to meet Denmark in Quarterfinals

2 Min Read

Dream Team Nigeria exceeded expectations when they  won their opening match against Japan in the ongoing Rio Summer Olympics. Aside from that epic win, Nigeria is the only African Men’s Soccer team to make it to the quarterfinals; as Algeria and South Africa have been eliminated.

Nigeria finished top of Group B, beating Japan and Sweden before losing to Columbia. However, they still finished top of Group B with six points; hence playing Denmark who lost 0-4 to Brazil in their last group game.

While the team is disappointed by yesterday’s defeat by Columbia, they hope for a better outing on Saturday, when they  will face the Denmark team. The Nigeria U-23 team’s hopes are centered on striker, Umar Sadiq, who scored two goals in the tournament before the no-show against Columbia. The kick-off will be at 8 p.m Nigerian time, Saturday 13th August.

Denmark made it through the Group A competitions by coming second to Brazil, as well as ruining Iraq and South Africa’s chances in the tournament. It is widely predicted Nigeria will trash Denmark by a 2-0 win.

The quarterfinals fixtures are as follows: Portugal vs Germany, Nigeria vs Denmark, South Korea vs Honduras and Brazil vs Colombia.
