Robber Who shot Ogun DPO Gunned Down By Police

A member of a coterie of armed robbers who shot a Divisional Police Officer of Ogbere Divisional Headquarters Adeyinka Akingbade last year in September was shot and killed by a squad of Ogun State Police Command on Tuesday.

The shooting of Adeyinka Akingbade happened last year when the DPO and his team were ambushed by the robbers. when he led a team of policemen to a hotel in Itele-Ijebu, responding to a distress call.

Police reports state that the deceased had escaped and run away to Delta State soon after the gang shot and injured Akingbade.

The robber in question had been unfortunate as he crept into Ijebu Ife on Christmas day (Monday) according to The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi.

He stated that the suspected robber has been on the police wanted list and the command have been on his tail since the incident last year

Oyeyemi said, “Luck, however, ran against him on Christmas day when police operatives received an information that he was sighted in a beer parlour at Itawade area of Ijebu Ife. Upon the information, the policemen swiftly moved to the place, but before getting there, he has left the place.

He was, however, traced to his in-law’s house where the police operatives caught up with him. Having realised that the game was up, he brought out a pistol and started firing at the policemen.

The operatives were left with no other alternative than to fire back, consequence upon which he was shot dead.”

A locally made pistol, machete, assorted charms and a Toyota Highlander with two different number plates were amongst the items discovered on him.

To this day Adeyinka Akingbade is in the hospital still recovering and under intensive care.

Ahmed Iliyasu the state Commissioner of Police “commends the resilience of his men in making sure that the last member of the gang was finally brought down.

Would be criminals should stay away from the state as no crime committed in Ogun State will go undetected.”
