Senate Removes Ali Ndume As Senate Leader, Nominates Replacement

The Senate Leader, Ali Ndume representing Borno South has been ousted from office.

The development comes following the crisis within the in-house All Progressive Congress, APC members.

Ali Ndume’s removal as the Senate Leader of the house was made known today in a letter transmitted to the Senate through the APC caucus. The APC caucus further nominated Senator Ahmed Lawal representing Yobe North as the new Senate Leader.

According to the APC caucus, the decison to remove Ali Ndume from office was agreed upon on Monday 9th January, 2017.

Ali Ndume in reaction to the development said: “I was surprised at the announcement, but I cannot tell if I have been removed as Senate Leader. I urge all of you to be calm while waiting for further development.”
