Senator Akume In Trouble With FIRS Over N13.5million Debt

The Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, has on Thursday sealed off one of Senator George Akume’s properties over unpaid taxes.

The Property, an hotel, located at 24 Atiku Abubakar Way, Makurdi was sealed off by the FIRS officials led by the leader of the FIRS enforcement team, Chinazor Edeh.

The leader of the enforcement team revealed that the Senator and his wife, Regina have accrued a total of N13.5 million in tax since 2011.

The amount according to report comprises of Company Income Tax, Education Tax, Withholding Tax and Value Added Tax.

According to Saharareporters, a management staff of the hotel identified as Mrs. Margaret Hinger called the Senator’s wife to speak to Edeh who maintained his job was to seal off the property.

Edeh said: “I am duty-bound to seal off the hotel and I’m under instruction not to speak with anyone on phone. Please, pay the money, so we can leave your premises.”

The team thereafter ordered the guests and occupants of the property out including the staffs.
