Sen. Abu Ibrahim (APC Katsina south) has blamed those he called political scramblers for the disruption of Saturday’s All Progressive Congress (APC) rally in Funtua.
The disruption occurred at the end of the rally which was attended by Gov. Aminu Masari.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday, Ibrahim dismissed claims that he was injured in the fracas, insisting that he was hale, hearty and unharmed.
The Senator described the people of Funtua as peace loving, stressing that he would neither be distracted nor succumb to the antics of political thugs.
The veteran politician, who head’s the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, restated his commitment to serve the people better.
According to him, disruptions at political events are normal, especially as the APC was receiving hundreds of defectors from different political groups.
He attributed the disruption of the rally to antics of political opponents seeking recognition at all cost.
“I have contested and won elections in all my polling units at various times without a single record of using thugs or rigging elections,’’ Ibrahim said.
He condemned the use thugs by some politicians and urged the electorate to vote wisely based on candidate’s records of achievements,
The Senator announced plans to unveil a skill empowerment training programme for about 600 youths, drill 750 wells and provide 750 water pumps to irrigation farmers in the constituency.
The senator said he had sponsored free eye treatment for people of the constituency during which 515 underwent surgeries, 330 persons received medicated glasses and 1,908 others were treated for various eye defects.
According to him, similar programmes were held in 2016, during which 1,775 people received training in various skills including soap and pomade making, livestock and poultry keeping, food processing, perfume and cream making, decoration and air freshener making as well as animal feeds processing.
He said that the beneficiaries were from Funtua, Faskari, Kankara, Kafur, Dandume, Sabuwa, Malumfashi, Musawa, Bakori, Danja and Matazu local government areas. (NAN)
