The departure of former Man United coach Sir Alex Ferguson affected the players of the club as they are learning to adopt to his successor Louis Van Gaal who has revamped their style of play.
Former Arsenal player Robin van Persie, who moved to Manchester in 2012 when Ferguson was still coach recently expressed how the resignation of the Scottish former football manager affected him.
Robin van Persie spoke to Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant on Friday and revealed that Sir Alex was a strong factor to his decision to move to the club and admitted that the exit of the manager left him disheartened.
“My decision to come to Manchester was partly because of the presence of Ferguson, or excuse me, Sir Alex. And he told me he’d stay for another three years. I enjoyed his approach.
“We were once 18 points clear of City but we lost at home 2-1. We were still 15 points ahead but he was furious. Then I realized: he’s a winner.”
Having scored just 3 goals this season, the 31-year-old Dutch forward said he is not impressed with his performance so far.
“Three goals in nine games is not enough,” he said.
“Against Chelsea I had a nice chance and I had three options: chip it, go round the keeper or just [shoot] straight at the goal. I chose the last and safest. If I wouldn’t have thought it over I would just chip it. I just have to trust again in my intuition.”
Van Persie also told the Newspaper that Man United will bounce back to their usual dominance as they now train more often.
